Expert Witness
What is involved?
Litigation support involves working with legal counsel as a financial expert in the context of a litigation matter. This involves the review and analysis of financial information and assisting legal counsel with the request and production of additional relevant information to assist in the case. Sometimes we are engaged as consultants to assist legal counsel and at other times we are engaged as financial experts to provide an expert opinion report on certain financial matters. In addition, we are often engaged to critique another experts opinion/report and provide a rebuttal report.
Which type of lawyers do you work with?
We work with the following lawyers and issues:
- Commercial litigation lawyers regarding matters involving construction claims, breach of contract and class action cases.
- Estate lawyers regarding estate litigation involving the management of estate funds and signature forgeries.
- Family lawyers regarding divorce matters of business valuation and support (child and spousal) payment issues.
- Criminal lawyers regarding allegations of fraud.
- Crown proscecutors regarding allegations of fraud.
What experience do you have providing expert witness testimony?
Ms. Walters has provided expert witness testimony over 25 times in the BC Supreme and Provincial courts.
The following are a sample samples of when Ms. Walters provided expert witness testimony:
- BC Supreme Court. Ms. Walters was the lead financial expert witness in a "murder for profit" criminal trial involving the murder of five victims in an identity theft scheme.
- BC Supreme Court. Ms. Walters was one of two valuation expert witnesses in a litigation matter involving the economic losses suffered by a business as a result of a flood.
- BC Provincial Court. Ms Walters testified in a fraud case for the Crown proscecution involving a fraud scheme perpetrated against an eldly man by his care-giver.
- BC Provinical Court. Ms. Walters testified in a separation file regarding support issues between two common law spouses.
- BC Supreme Court: Ms. Walters acted as a court appointed special referree in a dispute file involving how investment funds were used in a real estate development.
- Law Society of BC Discipline Hearing: Ms. Walters testified regarding the misappriopriation of trust funds by a member.
